Dementia

Living with dementia can be challenging and stressful. But there is support available from the NHS and council to help you and your family.

The support and care you may need is organised by the NHS and the adult social services department of your local council. Services provided by charities are also important. Even if you feel you don’t need support now, it’s a good idea to know what’s available and plan ahead.

Goodcare’s Dementia champion contacts patients will Dementia to ensure that their needs are met, to remind them of their appointments, and to book Dementia reviews. If you have any Dementia needs or queries, please call Goodcare Practice and ask to speak to our Dementia champion.

Have someone with you

Have a friend or relative with you, if possible. It will help if you’re not confident explaining your situation. They can also take notes for you.

If you can’t have a friend or relative with you, you could use an advocate. An advocate is someone to speak up for you. They can help you fill in forms and sit with you in meetings and assessments. They’re often free.

If you haven’t already had a needs assessment, contact social services at your local council and ask for one. You can find your local council on the GOV.UK website.
